Kids in Museums Conference: Code of Conduct

Read the Code of Conduct for delegates of our digital Kids in Museums Conference 2021.

We want our Kids in Museums Conference to be space for respectful discussion and debate. We are passionate about the future of youth and family engagement and want to give everyone attending the space to enjoy thinking about and engaging with the issues we are discussing.

We have compiled a simple code of conduct for all conference delegates and ask that you try and follow these principles throughout the day.

We ask that all delegates:

  • are respectful of all speakers and other delegates
  • use positive, constructive language to make comments and ask questions
  • are mindful of the privacy of others and consider this if taking screen shots for example
  • attend with an open mind and participate in a way that feels meaningful to them – both active listening and asking questions are fine
  • recognise and value diversity
  • handle any disagreements constructively and calmly.

We will not tolerate:

  • personal attacks
  • offensive comments relating to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro (a) typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, race, ethnicity, culture, political opinion, age, skill level, occupation, background or religion
  • hate speech, inflammatory or derogatory language
  • discrimination of any kind
  • violence or the incitement to violence
  • unwelcome sexual comments or behaviour.

If you do not follow the code of conduct, we reserve the right to remove you from any session and bar your access to the remainder of the Conference.

If you experience or witness any behaviour that violates the code of conduct, please call Alison Bowyer or message 07740 946939 on WhatsApp. Please show kindness to anyone who experiences this kind of behaviour.

The Conference is designed to be a relaxed and welcoming space. You do not need to apologise for:

  • your family or pets appearing during sessions
  • needing to step away from a session to take a break or leave a session early
  • asking for something to be explained because you don’t understand
  • asking for help during the day.

If you feel upset during the day, we have two staff members on hand who are trained to provide mental health support. Please call Alison Bowyer or message 07740 946939 on WhatsApp and we will arrange for someone to get in touch to give you some support.

On Zoom, we will ask all delegates to:

  • use their real names
  • stay muted while they are listening to sessions to minimise background noise for others
  • choose whether to have their cameras on during workshop sessions.

If you have a Zoom account you can change your name in your profile, as shown in this guide. Otherwise we will let you know how to change your name at the start of each session. If you do not want to use your full name for any reason, please put your first name and the first letter of your last name.
