Family Friendly Museum Award
You can nominate a museum for the Family Friendly Museum Award 2022 from Tuesday 22 March.
- Tuesday 22 March – Monday 6 June: Nominations open.
- Early July: Shortlist announced.
- July – September: Undercover family judges visit the shortlist.
- October: The Family Friendly Museum Award winners are announced at an awards ceremony.
We are pleased to introduce a new award category for 2022: Best Family Engagement Team. This award, which replaces Best Digital Activity, aims to recognise the dedication and innovation of museum staff and volunteers that go the extra mile to create a great family experience. It will be judged by an expert panel.
Kids in Museums Manifesto
As we launch the Family Friendly Museum Award 2022, we will also be unveiling the latest update to our Kids in Museums Manifesto. First created in 2003, the Manifesto is regularly updated with the help of children, young people and families to ensure it remains relevant. We look forward to sharing the results of our 2021 consultation with you on 22 March.
Takeover Day & Digital Takeover Day
This year our two Takeover Day events will take place on:
- Digital Takeover Day: Friday 1 July 2022
- Takeover Day: Friday 18 November 2022
After the great uptake of last year’s climate theme, this year’s theme will be wellbeing. We want to highlight the important role museums can play in supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing. After the challenges of the last two years, it is more important than ever to help uplift young people, provide meaningful experiences and support their creative ideas, allowing them to shape what they want to see from museums. As always, Takeover Day is totally adaptable to your organisation, whether your museum provides confidence-boosting work experience, opportunities to connect with their peers, mindful craft activities or even yoga in the galleries.
