The longlist for the Family Friendly Museum Award has been announced – and it covers the whole country and every kind of collection. Which just goes to prove – it’s not where you are, how big you are, or what you have in your cabinets that makes a museum family friendly. It’s being imaginative, innovative and inclusive. It’s making visitors of all ages feels as if they belong.

We received more nominations for this year’s Award than ever before. A panel of volunteers, including young people from the Stories of the World project, whittled over one hundred museums down to a 20-strong longlist. Here they are:

Haslemere Educational Museum, Surrey

Museum of London and Museum of London Docklands

National Army Museum, London

The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, Stoke on Trent

River and Rowing Museum, Henley on Thames

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Jewish Museum, London

Museum of English Rural Life, West Berkshire

Brixham Heritage Museum, Devon

Cumberland House Natural History Museum, Southsea
