Kids in Museums is an independent charity dedicated to making museums, galleries and heritage attractions open and welcoming to all families, in particular those who haven’t visited before. With a dedicated Board of Trustees and a range of events, partnerships and initiatives, Kids in Museums gives families visiting museums and galleries across Britain a dynamic and powerful voice.
We’re always looking for General Volunteers to join the Kids in Museums team. New volunteers would join an award-winning team and be an integral part of Kids in Museums support for museums, galleries and historic homes. Click here for our Volunteer Charter.
Here is an idea of the types of tasks you might do as a General Volunteer:
- Reviewer – this involves visiting museums and galleries and writing short reviews of them from a family and child’s perspective. Most of our volunteers review once every few months. Our Commissioning Editor will send ideas and requests and you’d also be welcome to make suggestions local to you. You can see the kind of coverage we have on our website under the News and Reviews tabs.
- Events Helper – we run various types of events and need help on the day to run a smooth event. There are a variety of roles which will be outlined in the brief and team rota sent to you beforehand.
- Office Helper – At busy times we need extra help in the office, tasks include administration, filing, making phone calls, sending emails or posting resources. You’ll be able to help with some of our key projects like Takeover Day, Workshops and the Family Friendly Museum Award.
- Promoting and Networking for Kids in Museums at openings and events – this involves taking along a bunch of Kids in Museums Manifestos to distribute and chatting to people about our work. You’ll be asked to report back on the contacts you make and suggest ways we can link up with them.
To apply, send a CV and covering letter to [email protected].
We will cover all travel expenses in accordance with our volunteer charter.
