We recently held a Teen Workshop at ZSL London Zoo focusing on what teens want from a museum experience. Here, volunteer Jodie Sadler shares her thoughts of the day…
A brilliant learning experience at London Zoo!
“I recently worked on a training day for museum professionals run by Kids in Museums. The workshop supported community and youth managers to explore best practice in their museum or gallery and how best to create youth forums.
“It was an opportunity to hear from guest speakers from the National Portrait Gallery’s youth forum, Katriona Smith from ZSL London Zoo who spoke about practical learning through her role at the pupils referral unit, Koula Charitonos from the British Museum and Rachel Moss from the National Portrait Gallery.
“Sally Trivett was an engaging youth guest speaker who spoke with her Arts Awards Youth Network hat on about how the power of art had changed her life. She is about to start University at Goldsmiths, which she wouldn’t have done without Arts Award.
“I learnt all about CREST which is another exciting award. Awards are undertaken by 11-to-19-year-olds, giving them opportunities to explore real-world science, technology, engineering and maths projects in an exciting way. Click here for more information.
“It was a fun and wide-ranging workshop, I would highly recommend it!”
