Kids in Museums are huge advocates of making museums the best value for money and more inclusive for today’s modern families. Just take a look at our Flexible Family Ticket project. So we were delighted to hear about the new ticket options available at the Norfolk Museums group.
The ticket scheme, which was launched 1 April 2014, simplifies the ticket offers available to families. The new Family Ticket doesn’t specify the number of children in a ‘family’, so all children are included in the group rate, regardless of how many are visiting.
For example, at Norwich Castle (the group’s largest site), a parent visiting with three children used to pay £22.55, but with the new Family Ticket, they now pay just £14!
The system has been rolled out across all ten sites, within the Norfolk Museum group and there are two types of family tickets on offer – one adult and all children, or two adults and all children. One visitor to Ancient House Museum of Thetford Life recently commented on twitter – “£6.50 for me and five children – how is that possible!?”
A spokesperson for the Norfolk Museum Service said that the decision to change their ticketing system was influenced by organisations such as Kids in Museums, the need to be inclusive of non-traditional families and to offer better value for family groups. Let’s hope we can inspire more museums to do the same!
